A Crazy Weather

It's not simple to go out for a walk in the countryside during this winter days in which weather seems completely out of mind. Temperature sudden varies: from a polar cold to a tropical warm just in few hours. Above all it rains a lot for days making impossible any walk also because country roads are full of water and mud.

However, when rain stops and, possibly, there are some hours of sun, in the weekend I try always to exploit the moment to make a, even short, walk in the countryside.

Landscape is always beautiful and an outdoor walking is always worth making with my woodstick, my haversack and, I've got to admit it, also an umbrella.

Because countryroads are in so bad conditions, I prefer to use solitary asphalted roads just not to sink in the mud or drown in some enormous puddle.

However, at the end of my walk along these solitary country roards, it's beautiful to go back home before the sunset where a warm fire is sparklin' in the chimney and my family and some friends are waiting for me to have a good time together in the evening.

Autumn's Thoughts

I have to say that for me walking on these solitary country roads in Autumn is a peculiar experience. Maybe it depends on the intese colors of the landscape surrounding me, the profound scents of the fields, silence, those small breaths of fresh wind: well anything stimulates meditation.

While walking in these days, my thoughts fly: even if my sight is focused on green fields, red trees or some bird or other animal, my mind is somewhere else. Memories, thoughts, reflections, considerations, imagines of a more or less far past time: anything seems frantically boiling in my mind.

I have to admit that if I have some confused ideas, if some problem makes me leaving my home sad or unquiet, even after a short walk what is confused turns clear, what is complex turns easy. Finally I find the necessary quietness and concentration to solve big and small problems.

While walking, what seemed to me a very difficult problem or a deep worry become small things which, with a little bit of serenity, can be solved.

Well, walking, in particular during the Fall, maybe has also a therapeutic function. Several times it helps me in understanding with what kind of banalities, silly things and futile questions I waste a larger part of my time...

Pensieri d'Autunno

Toward the Green Sanctuary of Corviano...

The fall has arrived and the days are getting colder and shorter. So, iI have decided to exploit a sunny sunday, even if rather cold and windy, to make a long walk toward the Great Green Sancturay of Corviano.

Initially, the first part of the path has been quite easy: long country roads sometimes connected to asphalted roads which made the walk definitively easy...

I have been walked for many kilometers also becasue the hilly landscape forces these roads to make many climbs and tortuous rounds. However the landscape is fine and the distance flies away with no problem...

Finally I began to come near to the Sanctuary even if, while approaching, the road was narrower and narrower, with many hurdles making rather difficult my walking: sometimes small rivers crossed the road and I had to put my boots in the (troubled) waters...

After that, from a small clearing, I saw the green wall of the Sanctuary.

At that moment, the road began to enter the forrest, but there I have stopped my walk...

Living Outdoor

Here I'm again after a long time since my last post on this blog. Actually during this summer I don't feel like staying in front of a computer to write something: I always prefer to do something else, above all, passing my time outdoor. (This attitude surely render the updating of this blog rather difficult!)

During the day, in every occasion I have, I go out for long walking in the country, sometimes I use also my bike; in other occasions I go walking along the beach at the seaside.

However my favourite is always is the classic country road...

And I have also a garden where me and my family produce vegetables making us self-sufficient for this: this garden requires just few attentions and care and it is nice to stay there working together...

In the night, it is fantastic to stay outdoor at home just talking, singing, playing a guitar or playing cards.

Well, the most beautiful thing in summertime is the possibility to live outdoor: I consider myself a very lucky man because I can live in this way. Living in a small country village in Italy, anything is simpler and easier: coming back from work, I wear my casual cloths and... I go out! Just walking or biking with my wife and my son for shopping or doing something else but leaving absolutely my car at home. Maybe it will take more time to do your home duties but you gain a lot for your health.

At evening, we have our dinner outside on a small patio under a big olive tree possibily sharing our meal with friends or relatives: our motto is "more people, more pleasure". Any occasion is good to stay outdoor.

The most important thing is, as always, leave your car, turn off your TV and don't stay alone, stay in good company.

Summer Walking

It's summer and these days are quite hot: it is not easy to go out for walking. In certain hours it can be rather difficult: well, sometimes walking along some country roads it is possible to find many trees alongside the road providing an helpful shade.

Many problems may arise when walking along a "naked" country road passing near great cultivated fields where trees are scarce or absent at all.

In these case, of course, a good hat can be very useful. I've got to say that I prefer the traditional straw hat, wide brimmed and possibly rather high, than the sport peaked cap, very cool today. The traditional hat is useful to protect also the shoulders, when very wide, functioning as a sun-umbrella, not oppressing your head: thanks to the straw and an open weave, you suffer no hot and your head sweats less. The sport cap is surely very cool but, in my opinion it is not good for this purpose.

A traditional hat is the best for a summer walking (when I stop myself under a big tree looking for a shade I can use it also as a fan - it perfectly works!): it is the same classic "big straw hat" used by the ancient roman peasants for summer works and by the roman legionaries when passing through the deserts.

And, after all, Ancient Romans were not stupid at all...

Always straight ahead

Some days ago, while walking as usual, I was thinking about the way I walk. One of he thing I was thinking about in particular was the fact that when walking on these country roads I never turn round. I always look in front of me or I look the landscape on the right and on the left, but I never turn round.

I've got to say that my behavior is totally instinctive and non-volountary: surely it is not the result of superstitions. Even if walking on the same country road for the nth time, I never turn round.

Maybe I'm more interested in the places where I'm going to rather than where I'm coming from...
