Summer Walking

It's summer and these days are quite hot: it is not easy to go out for walking. In certain hours it can be rather difficult: well, sometimes walking along some country roads it is possible to find many trees alongside the road providing an helpful shade.

Many problems may arise when walking along a "naked" country road passing near great cultivated fields where trees are scarce or absent at all.

In these case, of course, a good hat can be very useful. I've got to say that I prefer the traditional straw hat, wide brimmed and possibly rather high, than the sport peaked cap, very cool today. The traditional hat is useful to protect also the shoulders, when very wide, functioning as a sun-umbrella, not oppressing your head: thanks to the straw and an open weave, you suffer no hot and your head sweats less. The sport cap is surely very cool but, in my opinion it is not good for this purpose.

A traditional hat is the best for a summer walking (when I stop myself under a big tree looking for a shade I can use it also as a fan - it perfectly works!): it is the same classic "big straw hat" used by the ancient roman peasants for summer works and by the roman legionaries when passing through the deserts.

And, after all, Ancient Romans were not stupid at all...
